Overview

A trusted centre of higher education in Northwest Viet Nam

Tay Bac University was established under Decision No. 39/2001/QĐ-TTg of 23 March 2001 of the Prime Minister, on the basis of Tay Bac Teachers’ Training College, whose origin was the Lower Secondary Teacher Training School of the Thai – Meo Autonomous Region founded in 1960. The University is a public higher education institution under the Ministry of Education and Training, located in To Hieu Ward, Son La Province.

Quality assurance

Accreditation

Institutional accreditation

Accredited by the Centre for Education Accreditation – Vietnam Association of Universities and Colleges (CEA-AVU&C) in 2021 (Decision No. 139/QĐ-KĐCLGD of 24 May 2021).

Programme accreditation

In December 2025, six undergraduate programmes were accredited: Information Technology, Primary Education, Accounting, Agronomy, Geography Teacher Education and English Language Teacher Education.
